Emma Muir-Smith

Librettist & Director

Based in Melbourne and London, Australian writer, director, and performer Emma Muir-Smith is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist whose work encompasses theatre, opera, and classical music.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Emma’s work as a dramatist includes: Carnival of the Animals (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra), La Juive (Opera Australia), Die Freunde Von Salamanka (Victorian Opera), Peter and the Wolf ( Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) Listen to my Story (Co-Opera South Australia), Remembering (RADA Festival), The Selfish Giant (Victorian Opera), Alice Through the Opera Glass (Victorian Opera 2019), Missing (National Youth Orchestra Great Britain), Top of the Hill (RADA), Cool Air (Old Red Lion theatre London), Terra Nullius (RADA). In 2021, she wrote and directed Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Performance of a Lifetime COVID-19 vaccination campaign, working with artists including Tim Minchin, Virginia Gay, Rhonda Burchmore, Meow Meow, Deborah Cheetham and more. The campaign went viral on social media and trended at #2 on YouTube.

In 2022, Emma’s upcoming shows as a director include A Christmas Carol for Victorian Opera, and a new commission for Children’s Theatre Digital UK.
